Mohonk Mountain House installed four complimentary Charge Pro EV Charging Stations in mid-summer 2015, welcoming new technology to the mountaintop for our guests. As the United States Electric Vehicle industry has grown, so has the number of Mohonk Mountain House guests driving “All-Electric” and “Extended Range/Plug-In” vehicles. These complimentary charging stations, accessed via our Guest Services Valet Parking staff, are designed to make it easy and convenient for our guests to charge their electric vehicles during their visit to the resort. The Rosendale Café is a primarily vegetarian, sort of vegan option.

All about the ExtrasFamily ReunionsMohonk is a popular place for family reunions and provides special services and packages including reunion games and souvenirs. Around MohonkThe Mohonk resort is a vast and immersive experience and once you are on the compound there's not much reason to leave, especially when they feed you so well. But the college town of New Paltz, with its State University of New York (SUNY) campus, provides some alternative eating and shopping options. It's worth a drive down historic Huguenot Street, a former center of Dutch immigrant community dating to the 17th Century.
Family Activities
While training at the Mountain House to compete in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, Sherwood became familiar with the area’s best running trails, bike routes and swimming holes. That led to guests asking Sherwood for advice, hence the honorary title. Mohonk offers a host of theme weekends -- murder mysteries, cooking, gardening, dance, meditation, arts, fifties music. The theme programming is an added attraction but don't avoid booking if your dates happen to coincide with a theme that doesn't appeal to your interests. The programs add value for some, but otherwise can be ignored. Crowds for the thematic programs vary, but it's unlikely the place will be taken over by swing dancers or dieters.

Rock scrambles such as the Labyrinth (with its famous Lemon Squeeze) have been popular since the early days of Mohonk, allowing guests from all eras to navigate these remarkable tunnels and fields of boulders.

Fixtures, carpeting, furniture and decor are either original or reproduction period pieces comfortably arranged in vast public spaces and the dozens of cozy nooks throughout the seven-story hotel. Hallways serve as a kind of vertical scrapbook, with photographs, paintings, maps, textiles, news clippings, floor plans and artifacts of the hotel’s history and geography, worthy of taking the time to review. The Smileys have owned and operated Mohonk Mountain House since Albert Smiley’s original purchase in 1869. For nearly 150 years, six generations of Smiley family members have devoted their talents to ensure that Mohonk continues to thrive and carry forward its values and traditions. The ten-room inn was renovated and expanded, and the Mountain House underwent a grand but gradual conversion to the place we see today. The facility opened with accommodations for 40 guests in June of 1870.
Over the years that followed, rooms and buildings were added, then torn down and rebuilt as the need to grow larger became paramount. The current Dining Room was completed in 1893, the Lake Lounge and Parlor in 1899—both with electricity, so changes have been minimal in these areas. In 1910, the Dining Room Circle extension was completed, and this marked the end of additions to the Mountain House until the modern era. At its highest capacity, the Mountain House boasted 300 rooms (currently 259). The Victorian ambiance of the decor and furnishings has been maintained since the Mountain House’s inception.

There’s a 250-foot long wooden overhanging veranda with rocking chairs. So you get a glass of wine or an amazing cocktail and you can rock in a chair and watch the go down behind the Catskills. Do you have a site fee for wedding ceremonies at your venue?
The other time of year here that’s the total sleeper is the winter season Mid-week in February here at the Mountain House is pretty special. I can only imagine how wonderful it is to stay here-we only we’re here for the day. If you book a spa treatment you have the run of the place except for the pool. Mohonk’s legacy began in 1869 with the identical twin Smiley brothers, eccentric and frugal Quakers and educators who had a vision and who made some good choices and got lucky. They — particularly brother Albert — envisaged Mohonk as a summer retreat where people could reap the benefits of communing with nature and with each other. For many years, Mohonk was a hub of academic and diplomatic conferences and refined entertainment.
There is no shortage of activities from which to choose, with the following being among the most popular for adrenaline-seeking visitors. A little over an hour from the sky scrapers of New York City awaits a great day hike around Mohonk Mountain (Shawangunk). Sitting in the middle of a vast estate, the Mohonk Mountain House is surrounded by hiking trails. While there are many noteworthy trails on the estate, the Labyrinth trail is one of the most popular for good reason. It packed full of climbing ladders and crevices that require some crawling.
Sunday brunch is especially bountiful (and popular with many day visitors), with offerings including salmon and shrimp and a dozen or so desserts including those silly messy chocolate fountains that kids love. PoolMohonk's heated indoor pool in the new Spa Wing is lovely and family friendly. Situated in a wood-beamed and windowed enclosure, encircled by lounge chairs, the pool is just the right size and temperature for a pleasant swim. (The underwater sound system was perhaps the only detail that struck me as needless bells-and-whistles.) Depth ranges from a few inches in the shallowest end to 5 feet. There's a small selection of kickboards and floaters and goggles available.
With a supply of chopped wood, firestarters and easy instructions, this former Girl Scout got a minor blaze going in no time. There are no TVs in the rooms -- to the discontent of some but a welcome opportunity for your kids to detox from Spongebob Square Pants. To love Mohonk is to appreciate the whole experience — its gorgeous setting and natural beauty and classic take on relaxation and recreation and service.
